No Longer A Child
I believe in Education.
“Educated” by Tara Westover is one of my favorite memoirs. “Educated” has won many awards and literary recognition. Each chapter of the book beautifully captures Tara’s self-discovery and her quest to get an education. Tara Westover was born on an isolated farm in Idaho by racist survivalist parents. Being the youngest of seven children did not help Tara find her voice. The way Tara reflected and articulated her childhood traumas is intimate. Tara eventually needed to escape from home to understand herself and the world. Pursuing her own path meant becoming an outsider to her own family.
How a home-schooled girl from rural Idaho made it all the way to Cambridge University against all odds keeps inspiring many readers around the world. Readers can get educated on the importance of finding one’s own pursuit. The book allows readers to understand Tara better as her life unfolds chapter after chapter. I believe we will learn more about Tara in future books. Tara is brave, humble and educated. She is, in her own words, no longer a child.
